Basic Function

Performs advanced professional work and provide direction to staff in planning, implementing, and monitoring strategies, campaigns, and materials to market or represent Metro’s transportation programs and transit systems.

Example Of Duties

  • Meets with clients and assesses their marketing needs; develops plans, and coordinates strategies to market or represent Metro’s transportation programs and transit systems
  • Serves as a team leader on the design and production of complex or highly visible communications campaigns and materials
  • Plans, implements, monitors, and evaluates projects designed to promote Metro’s services, which may include bilingual materials
  • Interacts with private sector, governmental, and community representatives to develop joint advertising programs (including bilingual programs), promote Metro services, and solicit enrollment in Metro promotional programs when needed
  • Writes and edits copy, and works with the design team to develop outreach materials, marketing campaigns, and PowerPoint presentations
  • Prepares Request For Proposals for promotional services; negotiates and monitors contracts to ensure compliance with project/program goals
  • Acts as bilingual representative (if appropriate) of Metro at various functions and events
  • Liaise with Media Buyers to ensure marketing campaigns are in compliance and meeting deadlines as required
  • May forecast and monitor budget for department and major marketing events
  • Prepares or directs vendors in preparing narrative, statistical, graphic, and tabular reports and displays when needed
  • Represents Metro before public officials; private entities; professional, civic, governmental groups; task forces and the public at community and special events
  • Makes formal presentation to clients, vendors, or community regarding Metro’s marketing concepts and strategies
  • Maintains, supports, and promotes a safe work environment while complying with all of Metro’s safety rules, policies, and procedures
  • Contributes to ensuring that the EEO policies and programs of Metro are carried out

Requirements For Employment

  • Bachelor’s degree – Marketing, Communications, or other related field
  • 3 years of journey-level experience performing marketing, public relations, sales, or promotional work
  • Valid California Class C driver license

Knowledge:

  • Theories, principles, and practices of marketing, research, sales, and promotional methods Script/promotional writing
  • Printing, graphic, and photographic communications methods
  • Video/film production procedures
  • Principles of supervision

Abilities:

  • Compile and analyze complex data
  • Apply sales/marketing techniques to create and execute objective-based campaigns
  • Exercise judgment and creativity in making recommendations
  • Create and implement effective promotional projects
  • Represent Metro before the public
  • Prepare speeches, promotional copy, and other materials
  • Interact professionally with various levels of Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Edit literature for the general public
  • Supervise subordinate staff
  • Travel to offsite locations within a reasonable timeframe
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
